In November 2012,  in a joint venture with Kittoch Rotary Club, we contacted the 3 secondary schools in East Kilbride with a view to taking part in Euroschola. Two of the girls went through to the next stage and Samantha Byrne of St Andrews and St Brides H.S was eventually selected as one of the 26 pupils to represent Scotland in a 5 day visit in February 2013 to the European Parliament in Strasburg . The young people are given the opportunity to act as MEPs by sitting in the main debating chamber, using electronic voting etc.

A very busy March saw the Burns Competition transferred from South Park P.S to the Ballerup Hall due to the requirement for more space. We started early at 6pm with P4/5 and the choirs thus allowing these younger pupils to go home after their prizegiving at 7.30pm which was greatly appreciated by parents and teachers. P6/7 continued in the second half until the finish at 9pm. In all 52 individual pupils and 4 choirs participated from 10 schools with the winners in each category proceeding to the Area Finals. Burns Competition Wiiners -Emily Downie from Heathery Knowe and Aidan Neil from Auldhouse who will competing in the National Primary Schools Festival on Sat 27th April in Dunfermline; Emily Downie went on to finish third for singing in the national competition

In the same week we had a very successful Youth Speak Competition at the East Kilbride and District Group Training Centre organised by Leslie Irvine. 4 teams from the 3 secondary schools in EK took part with members of the EK Speakers Club officiating as judges. Duncanrig Secondary School senior team took the trophy.

In the lead-up to Christmas  a long-established tradition fell foul of Health and Safety regulations - we were not allowed to put up the decorations in Ward 16 of Hairmyres Hospital. Undeterred, we moved operations to Pine Crescent Care Home and put up the decorations there much to the delight of Matron, staff and residents.

We have had a number of fundraising events over the year.On 20th July 2012 John Cardo and Jim Moretti organised the Charity Golf AM/AM Competition. Many thanks to them for a successful day and to David and Gail Brown who worked tirelessly on the day setting up the course and who brought teams connected to Stranraer Rotary Club and Portpatrick Golf Club to take part thus cementing a connection between the two clubs.

The Quiz night, held in October (also at EK Golf Club) was again a very successful night with 25 teams taking part, although I must make the point that we rely heavily on golf club members and friends who make up the bulk of the teams and who contribute greatly to the money raised through raffle tickets and the Charity Auction. These two events made an excellent contribution of around £4500 to our charitable causes such as the Toys Appeal.  Frank McLuskey ran a successful Frog Night and Auction at EK Golf Club and managed to raise over £1200.
